Running an Adult Affiliate Site During the “Tube” Generation

A lot of affiliates are diversifying into new marketing areas, yet one area that most people seem to be avoiding is the adult porn industry.

There is a good reason for that of course – tube sites.  Prior to 2007, the dominating area of free online pornography was websites like Tommys Bookmarks – hundreds of links per day posted to blog posts or porn site landing pages which offered a variety of pictures for you to browse at your leisure.

While you could still access free porn videos, it wasn’t anywhere as easy as it is in this day and age.  Now you have hundreds of Youtube-style clones like RedTube and YouJizz, which contain 100% free pornographic videos.

While there is some marketing crap in there(2 minute videos which are basically an advertisement to buy the whole scene), for the most part these tube sites offer full scenes and movies which anyone can access instantly, without the need to sign up or anything.  Just search what you’re looking for, and then click “Play”.

So – why would anyone actually pay for porn, when it’s available for free?

I stopped promoting porn online in 2005, to focus 100% on the gambling market.  People asked that question back then too – however in those days there was so many misleading links and websites that paying for porn was a matter of convenience – you didn’t have to jump through a variety of hoops just to get some 2 minute trailer video urging you to subscribe.

I personally wouldn’t have touched the porn affiliate industry in 2009 through 2010, and I have a lot of friends who practically went bust due to the tube site boom.  Thankfully, while tube sites are never going to go away, we’re actually seeing porn producing websites actually adapt to the tube sites.  This, and a few other reasons mean that it may be a good idea for you to look into adding some porn affiliate sites to your portfolio.

If you are thinking about getting into the porn affiliate industry, here are some ideas to take into account:

Take Advantage of the Tube Sites

One popular tactic many affiliates are currently using is to set up a domain similar to the affiliate program that they are promoting, and then brand videos with their own domain which forwards to the affiliate program.

For example, if you were promoting Brazzers, you would upload either full videos or teaser videos of their material like DoctorAdventures.com.  You would then brand the video with your own domain like GetBrazzersVideosForFree.com or DoctorAdventuresFreeTrial.com and entice people to visit your website for more of these videos.

As a lot of porn enthusiasts like to watch similar material, you can safely assume that by showing someone a video of BigTitsAtSchool.com and directing them to a website which covers that niche in detail that you will get a good amount of interest.

The best method for this is to try and find the niche websites that don’t actually have a lot of videos already on that tube website.

While a general term like “milf” is going to have thousands of related videos, something more niche like “nuru massage” (only 2 videos on Youjizz with a combined view amount of 544,000) is going to lead to a lot more traffic and sales.

Promote Sites with Trial Memberships

First let me warn you – a lot of these trial memberships are awful, so be sure to read the fine print and know exactly what you are promoting, and the ramifications of it.  The purchaser usually has to cancel by the end of their trial, otherwise they’ll be charged eleventy billion dollars and have to give up a kidney.  Canceling is usually never as easy as clicking a button under “My Account” either – it can require jumping through a lot of hoops.

However I think the most important thing in promoting online porn, is to promote trial memberships.  “Trial” is a great word – you get to try out the full website, try out the services and try out the company with “no commitment”.

Most people won’t want to commit a full year to subscribing to a porn website, however by enticing them with a trial, it will really increase your signups.  And when these people sign up on a trial, they usually stick around.

Promote Specific Porn Stars

This is one of the greatest ways to make money promoting porn, and something I would strongly suggest doing.  People get infatuated with their porn stars.  That random brunette to me and you is the 32DD Jenna Presley to someone else, and you can bet your bottom dollar that people can recite how many lesbian scenes she has been in.

One of the biggest buyers market in porn is based on the star alone – and what’s great about porn is they can do over 50 films in a year, which is 50 different DVDs you’re able to market to your users.  Jenna Haze for example really only got into the porn industry in the middle of 2002, and now has over 450 films under her name.

I would be focusing on up and coming porn stars, and building up a great resourceful website on that porn star.  Focus on building up a mailing list, and be the first person to notify the fans what movie Stoya is going to be in next, and where they can buy it.

My friend actually owns an adult video store here in town, and I stopped in this morning(for research purposes obviously).  I was surprised to see that his store wasn’t categorized into “Asians”, “Schoolgirls” and “Milfs” but categorized by porn star.  He said that his biggest market are repeat customers looking for the same girl, and he’s had many people come in because they saw an Aurora Snow video on a tube site, and walk out with over 30 DVDs featuring her.

Promote Weird Stuff

Ah yes – the classic promotional method for porn that always works: promoting the weird stuff.

I won’t go into too much detail here – however promoting the weird niche usually always works.  If it makes you cringe to just think about it, then you can probably make a good few bucks promoting it.  If it’s weird or taboo there’s people that always want to see it, and it’s usually not widely available on any of the tube sites.

Just go to any random tube site and look at their top viewed videos for the last year.  I can guarantee if they have any incest videos on their website – it’ll be among the top viewed videos.  And sadly, that’s not even close to topping the scales when it comes to “weird porn”.

Of course, weird doesn’t have to mean gross.  Those XXX parody movies of Seinfeld, The Office and Big Bang Theory are HUGE and cover a lot of markets, and are the type of porn videos that casual purchasers will buy “for a laugh”.

Experienced Gambling Affiliates Will Succeed

People seem to think that gambling and pornography are the two most competitive areas of marketing online, yet when I look around at porn sites I can’t help but think how weak they are when it comes to search engine optimization.

Many of the sites ranking for specific niche are completely lacking in content, links, SEO and also on-site conversion.  Search for a phrase like “Full Tilt Rakeback” and look at how well done those pages are, and how competitive it is, and just how tough it would be to crack the top 10 in Google for that, never mind the top 20 or 30.

Yet search a phrase like “redhead porn” and look at the sites ranking there.  For the most part they’re poor, barely updated, and have very poor conversion abilities.  Their link portfolio is weak, and they are lacking big time in content and just general SEO.

If you’re an experienced gambling affiliate, you should be able to dominate the variety of pornography niche without breaking a sweat.

Finally I would just like to quickly note that I don’t really have many porn affiliate programs listed here on Affiliate Bible.  If you are looking to sign up and start promoting porn affiliate websites, please contact me with what ones and I will provide sub-affiliate links.  One that I would recommend the most is JuggCash.
